Preschoolers Promote-Becoming One Step Closer to Kindergarten

(Stockton CA) The Family Resource Center’s State-funded Preschool, the Joan Richards Learning Village (JRLV) celebrated the academic and social milestones of 140 children during its week-long promotion ceremonies June 5th through 9th. This year’s festivities were held in the school parking lot where the children took part in a special promotion parade. The young scholars, led by their teachers, sang songs to their families thanking them for their support in their early learning and development. Dressed in cap and gown, the children sang and danced to, “The World is a Rainbow,” and the “Thank You” song. Parents, grandparents, and siblings lined up to cheer loudly for the scholars as the school’s teachers presented the diplomas to each child.

Teachers and staff thanked parents for entrusting their children to them and presented each child with a copy of, “Oh, the Places You’ll Go” by Dr. Seuss and a brand-new backpack. “It really does take a village,” said Leslie Reece, Chief Operating Officer for Family Resource Center. “Our teachers provide the students with an excellent Preschool education here at our Center, but it’s also the support the children receive from their families-coming to the school’s events throughout the year, talking to the children about what they learn each day-it’s the support of all who care for the child that makes them prepared to enter Kindergarten.”

The ceremonies closed with children and families thanking the teachers and staff to the song, “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” Many families stated that they will soon enroll the younger siblings at the Center-appreciative of the early education experiences and friendships made at JRLV.

About Family Resource Center: Family Resource Center is committed to the health and well-being of children in San Joaquin County, and the adults who care for them. Serving the community since 1980, our mission is to provide resources to parents and childcare providers to encourage healthy growth for the children in their care. We do that by providing advocacy, information, education, nutritional support, training, and childcare services – directly and by financially supporting community childcare providers – so that every child, and parent, has access to safe and stimulating care outside the home. Through the provision of the county’s 2-1-1 system, housed and administered by Family Resource Services, we offer new and current residents referral and access to information about child care, nutritional services and other programs available in San Joaquin County that support broader community health.
