211 Success Story

A senior called seeking assistance with paying her rent. She stated she has been sick for a while and lost her husband a few months back. She mentioned receiving a notice from her landlord that she is late and is concerned about losing her home. Our 211 Call Specialist was able to find the Homelessness Prevention Program with Central Valley Low Income Housing. This program aims to assist those who are currently homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

During our initial contact, we explained to the senior caller how to complete the initial contact form online since she is not familiar with technology. We also explained the documents she will need to gather in case a worker contacts her asking for them. We worked with our caller for a span of 2 weeks to make sure she was able to complete the online application.

In a follow-up call, the elderly woman was able to complete the online application with the help of a family member. She stated she received an email from Central Valley Low Income Housing she was approved for back rent assistance for two months. All she had to do next was to turn in a list of documents. She was excited and grateful for the assistance. For more information about local resources and help visit www.211sj.org, or call 211.
