(Stockton CA) The Family Resource Center (FRC) celebrated its graduating Child Care Initiative Project
(CCIP) participants on April 12th, 2024. “The cohort were unwavering in their dedication to learning how
to support children and families in a family child care setting and it was wonderful to have a special
recognition for them,” says Tran Nguyen, Director of Community Resource & Referral Programs.
The celebration included a panel of seasoned, local Family Child Care Home Providers who shared with
the graduates their experiences as small business owners-offering encouragement and best practices,
but also peer mentorship. Perspectives on what the panelists wished they would have known as they
began their careers as licensed Child Care Providers, the importance of networking with others in the
field, and how to best set-up their early learning environments were all part of the robust discussion.
CCIP is a free training and support program for individuals who are starting their first Family Child Care
Home business. The state-funded grant assists in increasing the number of licensed, quality Family
Child Care Providers in San Joaquin County. Participants commit to attend an 8-week series of training
sessions and the ability to network with other Providers in a professional and friendly atmosphere. The
goal of a CCIP participant is to complete the 25 hours of training to obtain their Child Care license
during the fiscal year. Incentives are then earned upon completion of hours and becoming a licensed
Child Care Provider.
The Community Resource Specialists at FRC provided specialized trainings such as: Operating a Strong Family Child Care, Marketing and First Impressions, Developing a Curriculum, Social Emotional Development & Celebrating Difference , and Outdoor Play & Gross Motor Skills . Incentive included
supplies for the administration of their business and items to support the health, safety, and
development of the children that will soon be in their care.
Four CCIP participants (at the time of this press release) have received their CA State license to begin operating their Child Care business. For more information on becoming a licensed Child Care Provider or to participate in CCIP, call (209) 948-1553, or visit our website at www.frcsj.org.
