A recent winter storm caused a tree to land on an apartment building where a local family resided. The apartment was condemned, leaving the family homeless. The CalWORKs team was able to provide the family with homeless housing related assistance programs-providing a hotel voucher to ensure the family had shelter, and then connected the displaced family to the Family Stabilization program. The father, who was seeking full-time employment, was working for a temp staffing agency where most of his daily wages went toward paying for the family’s basic needs. Our CalWORKs caseworker then connected him to the SCAP-SE program. The father was encouraged to drop off his resume at our Robinhood location, as he did not have access to a working computer because of his family’s housing issue. Our Caseworker learned that the father had terrific work history and professional certifications and strongly encouraged him to apply for all open positions. The father called our team recently to share that he just accepted a job starting at $40.00 an hour. He thanked the team for their tireless efforts in making sure all resources were provided to him and his family, but also for Lisa’s constant encouragement during his family’s emergency.
