A FamilyWORKs Parent Success Story
During a recent home visit, we had the opportunity to make a significant positive difference in the life of one of our FamilyWORKs clients through the “Making Every Dollar Count” lesson plan. This particular client, whom we have been working with for a year, shared that she did not have a bank account. Living in a shared space and relying on public transportation, she faced various financial management challenges that made it difficult for her to keep her money safe, track her expenses, and pay bills conveniently.
Recognizing these challenges, we focused on three main benefits of having a bank account: safety of funds, budgeting and monitoring, and convenience of online payments. We explained how a bank account would provide a secure place for her money, reducing the risk of loss or theft in her shared living situation. Additionally, having an account would allow her to easily track her income and expenses, helping her manage her budget more effectively. Finally, access to online banking would eliminate the need for her to travel to pay bills, saving time and effort.
Encouraged by our discussion, the client decided to open a bank account. To support her in this process, we provided resources for financial planning and guided her through the practical steps of obtaining a bank account. This support is part of the comprehensive services offered by the FamilyWORKs program, which includes material goods and educational resources to help families gain control of their finances.
As a result of our interactions, the client successfully opened a bank account and adopted a better routine for budgeting her money. This change has had a big impact on her life, providing her with a safe place to store her money and a structured approach to financial management. She now feels more secure and in control of her finances, significantly improving her overall well-being.
The FamilyWORKs program continues to make a positive difference in the lives of our clients by providing essential resources and education. Stories like this highlight the importance of financial literacy and the benefits it brings to families. We are committed to empowering our clients to achieve financial stability and independence.
