211 Success Story: A Caregiver’s Lifeline

A senior called seeking assistance for his wife, who was recently diagnosed with a debilitating illness. He expressed that he was struggling to care for her and himself. Being unfamiliar with the resources available and referred to 211 by another agency. Our 211 Information & Referral Call Specialist found the Del Oro Resource Center, which offers information, referral, and education on his wife’s diagnosis.

During the initial contact, we assessed his situation, discussing his wife’s condition and his role as her sole caregiver. We explained how to connect with the Del Oro Resource Center, providing step-by-step guidance on how to complete the application process. We also outlined the types of support and respite services they offer to caregivers like him.

Throughout our engagement, we offered ongoing support, answering his questions and providing reassurance. We ensured he understood the documents needed for the application and how to gather them. We also highlighted the importance of taking care of his own well-being while caring for his wife.

In a follow-up call, the senior shared that he successfully connected with the Del Oro Resource Center and completed the application process. He was informed that he would receive respite services within three weeks. The client expressed immense gratitude for the support from the 211 staff and satisfaction with the resources provided. He felt relieved knowing help was on the way and appreciated having a reliable resource to turn to. He also mentioned his intention to continue using and referring others to the 211 service.
