(Stockton CA) The 211 San Joaquin Information & Referral Call Center, powered by Family Resource Center, was celebrated at the Annual Bolder Moves event, a community stakeholder breakfast where the United Way of San Joaquin County (UW SJC) emphasized the collaborative power of partnership. The UWSJC recognized 211’s decade of service to the community-connecting over 504,000 residents to local help and resources 24/7 in over 250+ languages in its 10 years of operation.
Attendees heard from Family Resource Center’s CEO, Kay Ruhstaller, about the history of the Call Center, 211’s response to community needs in times of crisis and disaster, and how “211 San Joaquin is the County’s communication channel to solve problems.” COO, Tiffany Phovixay, shared how 211 partnered with the Emergency Food Bank and Door Dash to deliver meals to home-bound seniors during COVID-19-underscoring the power of partnerships and, how together, “we are United for Good .”
UW SJC’s CEO, Kristen Birtwhistle, spoke about how United Way and 211 San Joaquin jointly support the Continuum of Care and the work behind Coordinated Entry. Birtwhistle also highlighted how 211 was the designated number to call to support families with CalEITC tax preparations and returns. 211 San Joaquin coordinated appointments through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, helping low-income residents access over 6 million dollars in tax returns-a financial boost to families and the local economy.
San Joaquin County Board Supervisor, Sonny Dhaliwal, commended the work of the 211 San Joaquin Call Specialists and staff through a proclamation presented to Ruhstaller and Phovixay, where he shared that “211 is not just a helpline, but a lifeline for our San Joaquin County residents.” Supervisor Dhaliwal congratulated 211 San Joaquin on its 10 years of service and urged all residents to share 211 widely with their neighbors, family, and friends to connect others to essential support.
The 211 San Joaquin Call Center Specialists know the community they serve and answered the call to over 73,000 residents in 2024 alone. For more information about the impact of 211 San Joaquin visit https://211sj.org/our-impact/.
